Beginning October 22, 2008, all applicants applying for nonimmigrant visas in Montréal and Vancouver must use the new DS-160 application form.
After completing the new DS-160, the applicant will electronically submit the application and will be provided with a confirmation page that includes only limited biographical information and a bar code. Applicants must bring this confirmation page with them to their interview.
Note: If the online application has not been completed fully and properly the applicant's case cannot be processed and a new interview appointment will be required.
This first pilot version of the DS-160 will only be available in English. Future versions will allow the user to see translations of the site in other languages, including French.

American Citizen Services
Effective October 2, 2007 an Appointment is Required for Most Non-Emergency American Citizen Services
Appointments are now required for most services, including passport applications and notaries. Appointments can be made on the Vancouver Consulate website. When viewing the site, be sure to identify the correct service you're interested in and read all the information carefully. Once you've read through the relevant instructions, you'll be given the opportunity to make an appointment.
Emergencies services, Selective Service registration, and voting assistance are available on a walk-in basis during public hours: 9:00 am - 12:30 pm on any business day.

American Citizen Services in Vancouver

Persons documenting a Claim to U.S. Citizenship for the first time or applying for a Consular Report of Birth Abroad on behalf of their minor children should first complete a preliminary questionnaire. Once the Questionnaire has been completed along with a draft copy of Form DS-2029 Consular Report of Birth Abroad (for applicants under age 18) or a DS-11 passport application for applicants age 18 and over (which requires proper photographs of the applicant) then the applicant will need to schedule an appointment.
If the applicant is under age 18 and you wish to apply for both the Consular Report of Birth Abroad and a U.S. Passport then be sure to complete all applicable forms and obtain the proper photographs of the applicant.

Individuals applying for U.S. visas at Consulates in Canada must first deposit the fee to the Bank
The deposit slip for your visa application fee consists of 3 pages. A separate set of deposit slips is required for each applicant. Take all three pages of the deposit slip(s) to any branch of Scotia Bank and pay the non-refundable U.S. visa application fee of US$131.00. The payment must be made in either $US cash, a $US certified check or a $US money order; incoming mail deposits and wired deposits are not accepted. The bank teller will stamp all three copies of your receipt and should return two copies to you. You must submit two validated deposit receipts with your visa application.
The special pre-coded deposit slip can be downloaded from the link provided below. Deposit slips can also be obtained by calling (900) 451-2778, or as part of the appointment process at http://www.nvars.com or in person at any U.S. Consulate. The Consulate cannot accept applications that do not contain two copies of your deposit receipt.
The Visa Application Fee is Non-Refundable.
You should not make any payment until you have successfully been granted an appointment date.

Passports will be returned by Canada Post

Passports and visas will be returned to the applicants with Canadian addresses by Canada Post, generally within three to five business days after the visa is approved. In person pick up will be available only in a legitimate emergency (as determined by the Consulate).
Discounted Xpresspost trackable mailers will be supplied in the Visa Section at the time of the interview; payment by a valid credit card is required. The price for next-day Regional service is $6.66 and the price for two-day National service is $10.08, plus applicable taxes and surcharges. Applicants should not call the consulate to track the delivery status but should use the Canada Post website tracking feature. For shipping terms and conditions, please visit the Canada Post website.
If no credit card is available applicants must prepare ahead of time.
Applicants must go to a Canada Post office and buy an Express Regional mailer before coming to the consulate. These are not available at the Consulate. Approximate cost is CDN $7.
Your visa application could be denied.
Each case is different, and only the interviewing officer can make the decision to give or refuse a visa. There is no way to predict ahead of time your chances of receiving a visa.
Security Notice to All Consular Visitors
Please note that all visitors must be screened prior to entry and are subject to inspection via a walk-through metal detector and with a hand-held metal detector. Carried personal items will undergo full inspection by use of an X-ray machine and other equipment.
Important:
Any visitor who declines to be screened by U.S. Embassy/Consulate security personnel will be prohibited from entering the Embassy/Consulate.
In order to facilitate your entrance to the Embassy/Consulate and reduce your waiting time at the security checkpoint, we recommend that you leave behind any unnecessary personal items such as purses and briefcases. If you leave them in your car, be sure to put them in the trunk and lock your car; do not leave any personal items in view in the passenger compartment.

Consular-Related Visitors
The following persons may accompany a visa applicant during Consular-related visits:
Interpreter: Applicants may bring one interpreter if they do not speak English well enough to participate in an interview.
Special Needs Visitors: Applicants may bring one person to help if they are elderly, disabled, or if the applicant is a minor child applying for a visa.
Attorney: Attorneys will not be permitted to accompany clients into the waiting room or at their interviews.
U.S. Citizens: One American citizen may accompany an applicant.
Due to waiting room size, the large volume of applicants and the time required to screen consular clients, other accompanying persons cannot be admitted to the waiting room. Drivers, friends, and extra relatives must wait outside or return to meet the applicant after the interview has been completed - with the exception of applicants with children.
